Formerly
called the place du Marché Royal during the French Revolution. The fountain dates from the Second Empire.
The painter Louis-Marie Sicardi, born in Avignon in 1743 deceased in 1825 lived in the Square during
his stay in Bordeaux from 1769 to 1774. On the 30 August 1772, after having presented his
"morceau de réception" the portrait of M. Lavau (now lost)
he was admitted into the academy of painting and sculpture. |
